Colourful climbing and bespoke trim trail

Malmesbury Primary School approached Infinite Playgrounds in June 2016; with a design brief to develop different areas of their outdoor play space. The brief asked for a stimulating play area for KS1 and KS2 children.

It was specified that the design had to incorporate a multi-play “climbing frame” inclusive of nets, balance beams and platforms to fit into a 12m x 8m site. A second area for fitness was also requested, suitable for both KS1 and KS2 children.

Our design included a robinia structure with a series of levels including a raised tower with a colourful canopy roof with a large stainless steel slide, fireman’s pole and set of wobbly ladders. The structure was open-ended with a series of access points including clamber nets, climbing ramp, a network of balance beams and ropewalks set at varying heights for extra challenge and difficulty. A forest green rubber mulch safety surface installed beneath the structure brought colour and texture to what was previously a concrete playground.

In the fitness area, we designed a bespoke “jungle gym” featuring a simple cuboidal framework with a series of hanging ropes for climbing to the top of. This was complemented by a series of trim trail elements including pull up bars, step up bars and balance beams.
